Teaching by Asking Questions – the Socratic Method

A recent discussion on the TDD list led me to this paper from Rick Garlikov about how he used a method of asking questions to teach a group of third graders binary arithmetic in a short interactive session that I found quite fascinating:

    That’s very cool. I wish I had been taught binary arithmetic that way!

    Last week, I took the Certified Scrum Master class with Ken Schwaber, and he demonstrated that the Socratic method is one of the more effective teaching tools available to the Scrum Master in working with Team or Product Owner.

    So much of the “newness” in agile seems to be a renaissance of forgone wisdom…
